Five Ways Terrace
This Paddington terrace proved to be the perfect fit for a downsizing family, ready to leave the suburbs of the North Shore for the vibrancy of Paddington’s Five Ways. With two older children soon to be leaving the nest, we transformed this three-story terrace into an entertaining haven.
Our challenges were two-fold. The first was restoring a previous renovation that both stripped the home of its period detailing but was also proving to be functionally problematic. We removed dropped ceilings and boxed out walls to reveal and reintroduce original cornicing, plasterwork and a period appropriate archway between the two front rooms.
The courtyard was an exercise in pure passion for our team. We feel strongly about creating opportunities for both quiet reflection and entertaining in often forgotten city courtyards. For this project, our design concept included outdoor furniture sourced from Europe, an ethanol fuelled firepit, a custom-built water feature, an outdoor projector for movie nights under the stars and a considered lighting plan to suit various backyard experiences.
The second challenge was incorporating as much storage as possible. Always an inherent problem when downsizing into period homes, but we overcame this with smart planning and custom-built joinery. The result is a timeless beauty that our clients can enjoy throughout the next chapter of their lives.
