the narrative

Set within the prestigious Toxteth Estate in Sydney’s Glebe, this four-story heritage terrace was reimagined for a discerning family of five, balancing fast-paced, busy lifestyles. Our design approach carefully preserved the home’s original charm, while completely transforming the modern extension to flood the space with light, seamlessly integrate custom storage, and create a tranquil connection to nature. The home now serves as a serene retreat—personalised spaces offer moments of quiet reprieve, while shared areas invite family togetherness. This thoughtful redesign has enriched our clients’ lives, offering an elevated sense of calm, balance, and well-being in their day-to-day.

A Layered Approach

Utilising a variety of traditional and modern materials mixed together in unexpected combinations saw this home's softly muted palette come to life in gentle layers. Softly tonal rooms are a combination of multitudes of soft and hard finishes sitting in harmony. These are our client's favourite materials.

the design

We were inspired by our client’s favourite hue of muted blue alongside a desire for individual spaces for family members to retreat individually or come together with friends and families for celebration. A successful DA application allowed us to breathe new life into the rear extension, introducing grandeur in scale and a space that accommodates an abundant life. Within the bedrooms and ensuites, each family member was treated individually, with designs responding to their own unique personalities. Honest and natural materials were selected throughout the home for their timeless ability to appreciate with the passage of time.

(The Outcome)

Interior Architecture & Design

With a brief focused on maximising the home to bring about a sense of calm and order, space for all, but also a place to be together- we brought about sympathetic change to introduce natural light through discreet skylights, a connection to the outdoors with interior courtyard and gardens and a green roof over the dining room extension. Storage was added in creative ways alongside nooks for quiet respite.
